![]() I wasn’t expecting deep lore or anything, but it’s kind of a mess. This time, though, the completely unrelated enemy spreads what’s effectively Ganon’s corrupt ooze with eyeballs from Breath of the Wild everywhere, and most but not all of her minions are also Rabbids for some reason? Mario + Rabbids 2: Sparks Of Hope DLC Expansion Features Rayman And More.Īlso we have a spaceship for traveling between literal worlds? It makes Kingdom Battle look grounded in reality by comparison, which is something I never thought I’d say about that game. The story is actually one of Sparks of Hope’s few missteps: the original’s trans-dimensional blending of Mario characters and goofball Rabbids is completely absurd, but it kind of makes sense in its own way. Picking back up in the post-Rabbid invasion Mushroom Kingdom, things immediately get even weirder when a giant manta ray from space arrives to cause trouble. Classic coloured coin challenges, secret stages reminiscent of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, and more make for welcome additions. Instead, Sparks of Hope introduces five vibrant worlds which Rabbids have colonised, full of challenges, quirky characters, and little secrets to discover by solving simple puzzles, which are no longer restricted to the block-based variety. Gone are the labyrinthine maps interspersed with battles and block-based puzzles to solve. Despite both being strategy games with light RPG elements, Sparks of Hope plays quite differently than its predecessor, to the point where it feels almost like a different game. Much has changed since Beep-O and the Rabbids found themselves crossing dimensions into the Mushroom Kingdom. The answer is as complicated as Rabbids are dense. Sparks of Hope - Does The Sequel Impress? It’s fantastic for inclusivity and ensures this is a title that can be a strategy game for any kind of player, which is really refreshing. But, head into the settings, and there are further options too, like unique dials for the enemy threat level and even an invincibility mode if you really want to avoid any danger. There’s a ‘demanding’ mode above that, and a ‘relaxing’ mode that dials down the threat and complexity for those looking for more of a story-based experience. I played Sparks of Hope through on ‘average’ difficulty, and it regularly presented me with battles that really tested my capabilities, or forced me to go away and level up my team a little more before returning. Because, despite the cutesy and goofy presentation, this can be a serious turn-based strategy game if you want it to be. This was a crossover that no-one expected, after all, but it’s seriously awesome to see it flourish into a strategy series to take note of. It’s a marvel really, how much Sparks of Hope switches up the brilliant gameplay that Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle introduced us to back in 2017. Five years later, the question now is whether or not Ubisoft has improved upon the formula born from gaming’s most unexpected crossover. No longer does anyone doubt whether Ubisoft can make a decent strategy game with the Mario licence, and - perhaps more astonishingly - few critics bemoan the inclusion of the chaotic little Rabbids in the Mushroom Kingdom. Nintendo is willing to give the keys to the face of video games off to another developer outside of the big N’s shadow. The sequel, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, has seen the general sense of surprise associated with the first replaced with one of expectation. More surprising still, it turned out to be a ridiculously good strategy game – one of the best on Switch. Nintendo lending Ubisoft its poster child franchise? A Rabbid dressing up as Princess Peach? Mario wielding a gun? Madness. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle came about like a fever dream in 2017. The story’s all over the place and the Switch can’t always handle everything smoothly, but it’s a fantastic game that can be played as either an enjoyable cakewalk or a deep, demanding tactical challenge, all while maintaining its zany sense of humor. ![]() MARIO + RABBIDS SPARKS OF HOPE Switch XCI Free Download Romslab
